BAGUETTES!!!

Yesterday, when Elaine and I were at Sam's Club we decided to invest in a 25 lb. bag of bread flour, and today we decided to do something with it. Our first venture was in creating baguettes, which are one of my favorite types of bread. So we set about making them with Mavin, and we came up with two beautiful baguette loaves. Mine was significantly larger than Elaine's (oops) but they both came out looking gorgeous. As of right now, we have just finished off the smaller of the two loaves, and it was so delicious! Yay for baguettes!!

Chicken experiment

A. (Elaine's chicken)

B. (Claire's chicken)

Claire's mom gave us two chickens. She told us to experiment with them...so we did. I have to say, chicken "A" was superb, but chicken "B" won the taste test from the Dolan family. Defeat...
  • Anyway, I used herbs de provence, rosemary, worcestershire sauce, and lots of butter. I also pulled the skin away from the muscle to create a crispy finish.
  • Claire used lots of butter, basil, sea salt, and thyme. She also pulled away the skin for extra crispiness.
  • Both were cooked in a 400 degree oven until they reached an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.

Julia Child

So, it's been a while...
I bought myself Mastering the Art of French Cooking (Volume 1) by Julia Child. I have been in the dark for so long. I didn't know how amazing Julia Child really was. I am in love with french cooking. The book was a little pricey, but so worth it. I haven't made anything from it yet, but I will soon. When I do, I'll post for sure. That is a promise.

Oh, and Merry Christmas.

Crispy pork and tortelloni

Blog posting

The pork was good. It was a little burnt, but luckily that didn't take much away from it. Next time, we'll definitely just sear it in the pan and cook it the rest of the way in the oven. But other than that, it was quite good and very filling.

Lasagna with spinach (sneaky, sneaky spinach)

I am obsessed with reading blogs and making blogs, so I thought hey, why not make a blog with my best friend Claire about our favorite thing to do together. She seems to be lacking in creativity so I thought I'd give it a go. Tonight we made lasagna and garlic bread. Claire wanted me to post that we made lasagna and that it was good, but she was wrong. It was great. Even with our crazy schedules we always make an awesome dinner every night. Anyway, I hope you all follow and enjoy our blog.

Until tomorrow,
Elaine
